How can I help?

There are many ways to assist our school and we are truly grateful for all donations, big or small. You may wish to consider one of our immediate needs:

  • New classrooms - $5000 per class
  • 1 week of food supply - $50 per week
  • Desks - $20 per desk
  • Library and text books - $5 per book
  • Stationery - $5 per basic set

Our founders, Julia and Peter Gichuru, commit all of their time and energy to Jupiter Junior Schools, but they also donate their land, produce from their farm and cover all of the basic running costs. In order to grow with the needs of the school, we are reliant on additional kind donations from friends, volunteers, tourists, sponsors, partners and other visitors.

For supporting our endeavours, your name will be embossed on the school memorial board as a historic deed. Alternatively, you may wish to consider the following options:

      Volunteer with us
We welcome volunteers from around the world! If you are able to give the gift of your time and knowledge, we invite you to join our team for as long as you wish. Subjects regularly taught at our school include English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, but if you have a special skill for IT, Art, Drama, Sports or anything else, we hope you will come and share your talents with our children and inspire the next generation.

Unlike many large international volunteering organisations, you do not pay any expensive agency fees which simply go towards administration in your country.  We strongly believe that by volunteering your time and knowledge, you are already giving great value to our project and we simply ask that you cover your own basic living expenses.

Volunteers have the opportunity to do a ‘homestay’ with us or if you prefer, there is a very pleasant hotel just 20 minutes walk to our school where we can arrange a reduced rate for you as a volunteer. The cost for your accommodation plus breakfast, lunch and dinner each day is kept very low, at approximately $100 US per week for a homestay and $200 US per week to stay at the Batian’s View Hotel (both including meals).

The money you pay will be directly supporting the people in the Mount Kenya community.
Jupiter Junior Schools would like to acknowledge and thank all those caring individuals who make contributions to our school. Without your assistance, our progress would be limited. It is our sincere hope that you and other new friends will support our efforts.
